how much does it cost to do a hair follicle drug test? how long does the drug stay on the hair follicle, and is there any way to take it out?

I work at a Toxicology Lab as a Specialty Tech in Chemistry.

Hair testing in our lab is cheaper than others. We charge from $65 to test for a single drug to $95 for a complete forensic test. Drugs take at least 2 weeks before they show in the hair. A user must have used at least 3 or more perdominate times for it to be identified in the hair. So if you did one line/puff it won't be in your hair. each 1/2inch of hair represents 1 month of growth legally w/out a court order labs are only able to test up to 1 1/2 inches (3 months) and any drugs used 9 months ago will show in your hair at about 2-4 inch length after the first 1 1/2 inch from the root. Your best bet is to keep getting hair trims. Don't shave your head entirely. Cause they will go to underarm, leg, arm, chest and in some cases pubic hair. these listed hairs go back in further... You can use these stripping shampoos bought at the head shops but they will only reduce the levels of drugs in your hair not eliminate them... best of luck

in addition, i read an above post.. "They begin cutting from the ROOT of your hair not the top and are only able to collect 1 1/2 inches and should trim the lenght past that off".. If they do it any other way they are doing it WRONG and I would ask to speak to the supervisor on duty

A Doctor can get the test done for you but it will cost an office visit + lab work.

Follicle tests generally provide up to a 90 day history.

It also depends on how long ago you did the drug. If you just recently did the drug, the drug will only be at the top of your hair not the bottom. It's very expensive to do hair tests at labs for companys. Generally they test the top of the hair which will give them the results for about the past 90 days or so. The further down they go the more it costs. Here's a website to help you out.
