I have a custody case coming up. I asked my lawyer to have a (hair strand) drug test done on my children's father. I think his lawyer has let him know what is going to happen, and he has quit smoking and using other drugs. It has been a couple of months or so. Will the courts be able to date back long enough to show that he was a user? If he has quit using for the time being, will the test still show he was a user? How far does state and government testing go back? Are there limitations on how a far they go back? I know employers go back 90 days, but what about family court? Anyone out there who really knows?

Yes, it can show he was a user, but being an ex-user probably won't change much in the courts. Especially since if he knows about the test, then he can up and admit that he used to use, but that has no merit in the present since he's quit and can even show evidence of drug treatment.

Hair follicle tests can prove that someone did drugs up to a year ago. Their UA may be clean but a hair follicle test is way more effective than an UA.

Don't worry he is busted if he stopped only two months ago.I no it takes a lot longer then two months in order for nothing to show up.Now it does depend on what he is using and how long.Pot is one drug if you can call it that personally I don't consider it to be a drug but anyway back to what I was saying if he is smoking pot then you got him. And shame on you for stooping so low . You do no that if he knows about the test all he will do is take as many urine test to show the judge that he has been clean and he is doing it for his kids.so I think you better come up with something better then that.
