Hair Strand Drug Test?

Hey everyone, I have a question about hair strand drug testing... Here we go:

I have to take a hair strand drug test to be hired on for a position with a well known insurance company. I will be working in the Federal Employee center, working with people who are federal employees that have insurance with the company. It is a government position.

In the past I have smoked minimal amounts of marijuana and taken some muscle relaxers here and there... It has been quite some time since I have done this.

I have heard that the longer your hair, the farther back they can test, (I have long hair) but how far back do they actually test for employment?

I want to know how far back they test for drugs, and what type of drugs they test for.

i'd imagine they would test the entire hair for any drug that shows up, tho for your employer they may not care much if its a minimal amount a few years back. sorry i dont have any definite info for you.

no matter what marijana stays in your hair follicles for up to 10 years. even minimal amounts. its not just in the hair on ur head, its also the hair on your arms, eyebrows and even eye lashes

not sure how much they test for, but they will test the entire strand of hair and that is what hold the dead cells with the reminents. They have hair gel and shampoo for these types of test if you are really worried. The shampoo really isn't good for your hair at all because it strips any color or foreign bodies from the hair, but sometimes it worth it.....hey if you get the job you should be able to afford some hairapy right?!

They'll probably test the whole thing. If there is someone equaly qualified then they are more likely to take someone who hasn't ever done them.

Hair testing is quite accurate and can go back normally 3 months (6 months or longer possible with specialty tests), showing any drugs of abuse used in the detection window. As hair grows out, any drugs used are encased in the hair shaft, so the longer the hair, the longer back in the individual's drug history the lab can detect. Accredited hair drug testing labs, however, only use hair within about 2.5閳? cm of the scalp, and discard the rest. With head hair each 0.5 inch (1.27 cm) corresponds to about 30 days. This limits the detection history to about 90 days, depending upon the rate at which the individual's hair grows. Some people attempt to circumvent this through shaving their heads. In the absence of the required amount of hair on the scalp, body hair can be used as an acceptable substitute. In recent years hair testing has been the subject of a number of law suits. Studies have shown that different ethnic groups have different hair structure leading to false-positives.

I agree with answer 2. They will surely test the entire hair and I don't think it matters if you cut it. Last I heard they can search back as far as 10 years. But that could be wrongful information. Remember the government has secrets and I for one believe they lie to the general public to keep us ignorant. They have all sorts of things we don't know about we only know what is 'leaked'

I don't think you should worry though. They will go by how far back the drug use was and they will see whether it was abused or used as needed. Depending on exactly what position you are applying for will determine whether Any drug use will allow you to proceed.
