I heard that they can take a sample of your hair and tell if you been doing drugs for up to 1 year. I never heard of any job that requires this type of testing. I only heard of the piss test used, not the hair test.
When is the hair drug test ever used?
It is seldom done. I know Valero Energy Company uses hair testing for their employees. It is a measure of your character. The length of you hair determines how far back in time you can test. This is why so many city policemen shave their heads. You have nothing to test and piss tests don't test for the for the absence of narcotics, they test for only a threshold. So a city policeman can use narcotics and and "PASS" a piss test because his narcotic level isn't high enough to be detected and trigger a dirty piss test.

Usually more serious jobs will require them like the federal government or people that will really want to know if you do drugs and yes depending on the test they will know what you have done for up to a year and possibly more.

The company that my husband works for uses the hair test. Both when you are a new employee, for random testing and for accident testing. And I believe they can see drug use for 7 years.
When is the hair drug test ever used?
When a known drug addict wants her kid back.
Like my best friend just got his daughter back from his wife. She tried to get their daughter back from him - they took a hair, and laughed at her.
Don't be stupid, and it won't happen.

Hair testing is usually used in Drug Court. It's much more expensive than a urine test so most employers (considering they use several) don't want to pay for more expensive testing.
When is the hair drug test ever used?
drugs on hair? hahahahaha.... seriously dude you shouldn't even be worrying about it... most companies do their drug screening with some lab companies using urine since it's cheap, standardized and won't miss out on clues about your drug habit....hair testing is done mostly on people being assesed for heavy metal toxicity (thallium poisoning and the like).. if you are worried that something might show up after several months or up to a year it's because most drugs have a long half life and will certainly show up as positive even if you have stop for a while now...:p

When a person dies as a result of poisoning, and the body recovered belatedly, only with the skeletal remains. Then they test the hair which will not decay as other organs and bones. Traces of poison can be detected, and the exact poison used, which caused the death to the person, can be concluded.
The study is called " forensic Science ". If you are interested to know more things in detail, please visit a web site.

I was in a custody battle with my ex-gf, I told my attorney to ask for a hair follicle test. She hasnt been around since. That was about 15 yrs ago. Most jobs don't use it because of the cost.

Actually hair sample testing is becoming more common. It is a sure and efficient way to tell if some people have been exposed to drugs. (around or using) I highly doubt that the process will ever stand for job positions, but for people who are on probation, it will work great. Only because the people on probation are not supposed to be around or using drugs. That can tell the law officials what they've been doing after being free. On the other hand, places that hire can't really use this test sufficiently because who is to say that someone else was smoking it at a family gathering, and you seriously didn't know it was pot? The hair sample testing could be used to determine other smokeless drugs... so it could be used. I don't know, this could become controversial.
